This coffee is produced by some 750 smallholder farmers, each working on plots of around 1-2 hectares. Once harvested the cherries are sold to a processsing mill, in this case the Muriba Coffee Processing Unit. Tarime is located in the northern reaches of Tanzania, near the border of Kenya.

Expect flavours of orange, peach and caramel in the cup.

Our seasonal coffees each come with their own story, which is part of what makes them so special. Here we take a closer look at the producers of this coffee.

THE PRODUCERS

The Muriba Coffee Processing Unit (CPU) process and bag coffee from five cooperatives in Tarime and visits the collection centres of each group to gather the cherries during the harvest season.

HARVESTING & PROCESSING

Once the cherries are collected and transported to the CPU, they are carefully sorted to remove any low-quality cherries. Next, the cherries are fermented in tanks of water for 12 hours to develop the sugars in the skin of the fruit. After fermentation, the cherries are dispersed on raised beds to dry in the open sun for 4 – 5 weeks. Once the ideal moisture content is reached, the coffee is bagged and sent to the dry mill in Moshi to be hulled and prepared for export.
